“Heavy drizzle,” as a description of rain may sound oxymoronic to anyone who lives outside the UK, but us Brits are experts on the many varying rain types we may experience, particularly when it matters, such as at a BTCC race weekend.

Race 2 started with a warmer track and the option, soft tyre on both Astras, with wet tyres at the ready in case of the changeable weather.

After a drizzly morning, tyre choices were incredibly important for Race 1 of the Brands Hatch Finals at the BTCC.

Both Proctor and Chilton left the garage for the final Qualifying of the 2017 season of the BTCC with slicks on their front-wheel-drive Astras in the hope that the light rain would cease before long.

Chilton PMR

For those who need a reminder, at Silverstone two weeks ago Rob Huff was in Chilton’s Astra, finishing Race 3 in second place, and Senna Proctor guaranteed himself the Jack Sears Trophy of the Championship.
