Power Maxed Racing Return to The Track for TCR & VW Racing Cup
This weekend will see Power Maxed Racing take to the track once again, for the inaugural rounds of the 2020 TCR-UK Championship, alongside the Volkswagen Racing Cup.
PMR will be fielding one entry in each category, with Dan Kirby piloting one of a pair Seat Cupra TCR cars currently in the PMR stable.
Kirby is no stranger to high-level motorsport, himself heading a BTCC team, in the form of Trade Price Cars Racing. Despite being rivals on the BTCC grid, Kirby partnered with PMR at the end of 2019, with a view to the team preparing and campaigning a pair of the racing Seats.
The Volkswagen Cup entry will be driven by William Butler. Butler is a new name to circuit racing, but has campaigned successfully withing rallying at an international level in an M-Sport Fiesta R2 car. The 22-year-old has made the change to tarmac seamlessly, with consistently fast times performed during testing in the team’s custom built Volkswagen Polo.
Butler will take to the twists and turns of Cheshire’s Oulton Park this weekend in the 2.0 turbo powered hatchback, with a view to finishing the season in the team’s remaining Seat Cupra TCR car.
This will be PMR’s first full season in TCR-UK, though many will remember the Renault Megane TCR car, extensively prepared by the Warwickshire-based team, which took Alex Morgan to a double podium at the final round of 2019 at Donington Park.
Dan Kirby, Trade Price Cars Racing – “I’m really looking forward to getting out on track again. TCR-UK is a great championship, and from the limited testing we’ve been able to do, PMR have put together a really strong car and package for the year. Obviously it’s been a tough year for all of us, but it’ll be great to start racing again and return to a sense of normality.”
William Butler, Flipstick Motorsport – “Circuit racing is obviously very different to the rallying I’ve become accustomed to, but there are loads of skills that I’ve been able to bring across. The team have been really supportive, and we’ve all worked hard over the last few months to make this happen. I’m really excited to get out there and get stuck in!”
